They'd been walking for miles
Hadn't had any sleep
What a feeble scene
Death danced close behind those wilted trees
In the midst of that June drought
When all faith had gone
One man stood up to say
Dry your sobbing eyes
This path goes on

But it brings me down they cried
Our crops are dried and brown
He said I know it's dark
But keep a fire lit bright in your hearths
And remember when it rains

Monday mornings come again
A young man steps from his brick home
What a lonesome lad
Walks on down that narrow path
And he starts up his car
Low on gas he knows he can't get far
Wonders how he endures
London's winters keep him very far from warm

And it brings me down he sighs
With many skies of grey
And though I always try
To remember the suns great shine
I just remember when it rains
